At Heart & Hand we focus on the whole-child helping your child grow socially and emotionally while promoting cognitive and physical development with age appropriate activities and experiences.
There are planned developmentally appropriate teacher led activities on a daily basis. However, we believe that the best learning happens when it is child led and spontaneous. Natural curiosity and your child’s interests open up a whole world to discover! Creating an atmosphere that fosters creative play and exploration is our goal setting your child on a path to becoming a confident life-long learner.
Heart & Hand makes use of Virginia’s Guide to Young Children’s Learning and Development fro birth to Kindergarten, Virginia Foundation Blocks for Preschool Learning, Character Counts and other curriculum and resources to complement and complete your child’s experience.
INFANT EXPERIENCE (6 WEEKS - 16 MONTHS)
Your infant will spend their day in a warm and loving environment where caregivers are responsive to the needs of each infant. Caregivers spend one-on-one time with your infant with milestones communicated as each infant develops at their own pace.
TODDLER EXPERIENCE (16 MONTHS - 35 MONTHS)
A toddler’s day is filled with lots of play. Your toddler will be introduced to creative art, language, music, gross and fine motor skills and sensory exploration. Outdoor play is an integral part of each day. Caregivers develop a loving and trusting relationship with your child so your child feels safe to explore and learn independently and as part of a group.
PRESCHOOL EXPERIENCE (3 - Start of Kindergarten)
At this age your child will be introduced to critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Materials and activities will promote STEM exploration. Indoor and outdoor learning environments have been created so your child feels safe and comfortable taking a leap in learning as they navigate their world and social/emotional development.
CENTER-WIDE
Monthly center-wide themes are posted in advance to help build our sense a whole community of learners. Each classroom is provided a framework of areas of learning to be offered on a daily basis. Those areas included group time, individual learning, literacy, science, math and manipulatives for fine motor skills, gross motor and sensory investigation. We utilize the Six Pillars of Character as we build our community and sense of self. Teachers are able to tailor class learning and activities to fit the needs of the children.
We believe the key to a successful partnership with our families is communication. We use the Brightwheel system for daily communication so you can see how your child has napped, eaten and learned each day. Brightwheel is an app for your phone. You can also receive pictures throughout the day.
